All-Laser LASIK

Also called iLASIK, IntraLASIK and IntraLase is exactly like conventional or custom LASIK, except the corneal flap is created with a femtosecond laser rather than a mechanical microkeratome with a metal blade.

All-Laser LASIK may be performed with conventional laser ablation or wavefront custom LASIK laser ablation.

Custom, All-Laser LASIK provides an additional level of precise data about your vision requirements using wavefront technology. The wavefront analyzer measures the way light travels through your eye and compares it to the way light travels through an eye with perfect vision. This device then creates a 3-D wavefront map that is unique to you. Your wavefront map provides a highly detailed diagram of your vision that allows your doctor to provide you with truly personalized vision correction.

There are advantages that can make All-Laser LASIK more predictable and safer than traditional LASIK with a mechanical microkeratome. These include more precise positioning of the flap, more accurate thickness of the flap, more even thickness of the flap throughout, and a lower probability of intraoperative complications such as buttonhole flaps, thin/thick flaps, or epithelial defect.

Despite these advantages some patients may experience a short period of increased corneal swelling or some photosensitivity. All these issues usually resolve during the normal LASIK six-month healing process, however additional eye drop medication may be required.

The ideal candidate for LASIK has a stable refractive error within the correctable range, is free of eye disease, is at least 21 years old and is willing to accept the potential risks, complications and side effects of LASIK.
